The CLC’s Schools’ Competition 2025
A note from the executive committee…
For another year we have opened our schools’ essay competition, and we cannot wait to read your work!
The essays will be assessed by academics from the Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics Faculty, giving students the opportunity to have their work reviewed by Cambridge academics. We have two sections, one for Arts and Culture, and another for Politics and Society. Read to discover this year’s prompts, questions and essay titles, as well as the Arts and Culture section’s 2025 list of books and films, along with our Politics and Society questions.
For each language, we have two categories available for students: Junior and Senior. Junior texts and films relate to students studying at a GCSE level, while Senior relates to A-Level standard.
All essays can either be in English or the target language, and should be between 800 and 1,200 words. For works from the Art and Culture section feel free to refer to either the original or translation, but do try to quote in the target language wherever possible.

Essays should be emailed to cambridgelanguagecollective@mmll.cam.ac.uk by May 12th.
We will publish results soon after on our social media and website. If you have any questions, please get in touch via our email.
Best of Luck!
Becky, Stella, James and Reuben.
